Sound format

This is how you store audio files. The audio files that are commonly used are mp3, WAV, and AIFF, each having a different use.

Pros and cons of mp3 –

One pro of an mp3 is that it is a small file size which makes it easy store and share them as they are compressed. However due to this some of the audio quality can get lost during the compression which is a con.

Pros and cons of WAV –

One pro of using WAV is that it is high quality due to the files not being compressed which means they hold the original audio data. However, one con is that the file takes up a lot of storage space due to it being a large file.

Pros and cons of AIFF –

One pro of using AIFF is that the file is uncompressed making it high quality as it stores the full audio. However, due to it being a large file size it takes up a lot of storage space making it con.

Storage

This is the space that is available on specific devices to store things such as photos or videos. The most common way people store such content is by using flash drives, hard drives and cloud.

Pros and cons of flash drives –

One pro of using a flash drive is that it is small and easy to carry making it portable. However, it has limited storage space due to it being small which is a con.

Pros and cons of hard drives –

One pro of using hard drives is that it can store large amounts of data giving it a high storage capacity. However, one con is that it can be slower to access data.

Pros and cons of cloud –

One pro of using cloud is that it is accessible making it easy to access files from anywhere with an internet connection. However, you can only access these files with internet otherwise you can’t which is a con.

Compression

Compression is when you reduce the file size without too much being lost. The most common ways to do this is by using DCR, downward and upward compression.

Pros and cons of DCR –

One pro of using DCR is that it has high image quality which means it keeps all the original image data due to being uncompressed. However, one con is that it has a large file size which will take up a lot of storage space.

Pros and cons of downward –

One pro of using downward is that it reduces the file size which saves up storage space. However, one con is that it will lead to quality loss due to the compression method.

Pros and cons of upward –

One pro of using upward is that it increases the sun duality making quiet sounds more louder and clearer. However, one con is that it can amplify background noises that may not be wanted.
